COVID-19 Statement

March 2020

Burlap Bag’s Response to COVID-19 Outbreak
For anyone who raises questions about why the Burlap Bag is still partially operating its stores, I want to explain what we’re doing and why.

The White House issued a directive on March 16, 2020, in which we are told that Burlap Bag as a PPE provider, has a “special responsibility to maintain your normal work schedule.”

The Department of Homeland Security defines manufacturers, warehouse operators, and distributors of PPE as a critical infrastructure industry.

OSHA defines “personal protective equipment” (PPE) as “equipment worn to minimize exposure to a variety of hazards. Examples of PPE include such items as gloves, foot and eye protection, protective hearing devices, hard hats, respirators, and full body suits.”

Burlap Bag supplies safety footwear and related personal protective equipment to the workers who need to keep working during these trying times, e.g. the utility workers, the first responders, and fire departments. Our customers tell us they need us to keep providing PPE to help keep them safe.

At the same time, the safety and security of our employees is our top priority. Therefore, we have safely laid out our retail space to ensure social distancing. We will continue to work with all state and local officials. Our intent is to follow the White House directive, comply with all applicable laws and regulations, as well as keep our employees and the public safe.

Sincerely,
Diane Wilcox – Owner
The Burlap Bag
